I heard that you need to add oil and salt when boiling the spaghetti. Why do you need to add oil and salt?

In order to boil spaghetti perfectly:

add about one tea spoon (1-2 grams) of salt to water.

boil for the time you can read on spaghetti box (9-12 min)

take the spaghetti out of water and then

put som olive oil on them so they will not stick each other,

add your favorite sauce and... Buon Appetito !

you add salt simply because it boosts the flavor of the pasta. As long as you put enough water in the pot for the pasta to boil efficently witohut sticking together, there is no reason to add oil, follow the directions on the box for how much water to put.In fact its better not to add OIL especially if your using a sauce as the oil will make thesauce slide off the pasta, if you like the taste of a good oil, drizzle some on top of the pasta with sauce after its plated

To cook spaghetti the right italian way: add 1 teaspoon salt to boiling water (1 teaspoon per liter) and then wait until water boils again. Then add spaghtetti without breaking them and 1 teaspoon oil to prevent spaghetti from sticking. Salt is to give taste of course. Stir with a wooden fork or spoon and cook until "al dente", i.e. a few minutes according to spaghetti size (see package for instructions). Buon Appetito!!!

Remember to put spaghetti into BOILING water, many not italian people don't know this, but pasta needs to be cooked into boiling water!

Add salt when water starts to boil, then put the spaghetti and let them cook until the time written on the spaghetti box. When spaghetti are ready, throw away the water and add olive oil or tomato sauce (not ketchup sauce!!!) or any sauce you want (vegetables, meat, fish... any recipe you can find) and parmigiano or grana padano cheese! These are the real spaghetti! Buon Appetito!
